Brees Got Paid!!

Earlier this morning I posted the Overnight News piece, in that article I mentioned that Brees had been contacted by the Vikings to see if they could tempt him away from the Saints.
As quickly as that had gone up, the NFL showed us again that it never sleeps.
It was then announced that the Saints and Brees had agreed on a 2-year, $50 million deal with $27 million guaranteed.
Why this makes sense for the Saints?
The move makes sense for the Saints as it allows them to tackle Free Agency on the 14th with their most important position filled. It also has a positive impact on their salary cap parameters for the start of FA. Its imperative for a team trying to attract stars such as Tight End Jimmy Graham as well as Corner Malcom Butler, that they know the team has stability and has a QB who can propel the team to a very solid season. That continuity also helps the Saints current players, they know what they are getting and they know how to play and be led by Brees, they respect him, that’s very important.
Why this makes sense for Brees?
Drew Brees is 39, and will be 40 going into the playoffs next year (15th January). By signing a two-year deal, this may well take Brees to the end of his career after the 2019 season. That’s important to note, the question has to be asked, why hasn’t he signed for the usual three years? This deal means he can retire at the age of 40/41, with a lot of money in the bank, a Hall of Fame career under his belt and a young family to spend time with.
Brees is set to become the NFL’s all-time leading passer sometime during the early part of the season. Currently he has 70,445 passing yards and needs a further 1,496 yards to break Peyton Mannings carrer mark of 71,940. He will also become the Saints all-time leader in games played this season. With 190 games, he need to play in seven more games this season to break Morton Andersons team record of 196. Whilst these seem insignificant to most, these records will mean something to Brees, unless injury strikes early in the season, he will most certainly break these records.
Its another QB off the market and move Kirk Cousins into the prime seat for the Vikings starting job. Keep your eyes peeled.
